Tim’s Act aims to significantly improve the compensation and benefits for federal wildland firefighters, who are employed by the Department of Agriculture, the Department of the Interior, and tribal governments. The bill increases base pay rates by percentages based on GS level, establishes premium pay for prolonged fire incidents, and introduces paid rest and recuperation leave. It also expands retirement benefits, provides housing allowances and tuition assistance, and addresses psychological stress-related injuries through worker’s compensation reform. Finally, the legislation creates programs to support the families of fallen firefighters and promote their mental and physical well-being.
