Bill overview
This bill, the Justice for ALS Veterans Act of 2025, aims to provide increased financial support to the surviving spouses of veterans who died from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Currently, this compensation is only available if the veteran’s disability was rated as totally disabling for at least eight years leading up to their death. This legislation expands eligibility by ensuring that surviving spouses receive this enhanced compensation regardless of the length of time the veteran had ALS, and it applies retroactively to deaths occurring on or after October 1, 2022.
