Bill overview
This bill allows the President to grant ‘normal trade relations’ – meaning reduced tariffs and trade barriers – to products from certain countries. Currently, the Jackson-Vanik amendment restricts trade with some countries unless they meet specific emigration requirements. This bill would authorize the President to waive these requirements or determine a country isn’t in violation, effectively opening up trade with those nations. The bill also allows for the permanent extension of NTR status to designated countries.
