Bill overview
This bill amends U.S. law to require commercial motor vehicle (CMV) operators to demonstrate English language proficiency before obtaining a commercial driver’s license or certification. Starting two years after the bill’s enactment, applicants must prove they can understand English-language traffic signs, communicate with law enforcement and border officials, and receive directions while operating a CMV. The bill also mandates that all knowledge tests for CMV operators be administered in English.
