Bill overview
The Immediate Access for the Terminally Ill Act aims to provide quicker access to Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits for individuals with incurable terminal illnesses. It allows beneficiaries diagnosed with qualifying conditions, as listed by the Social Security Administration, to receive benefits sooner without the usual five-month waiting period. To do this, beneficiaries would accept a 7% reduction in their monthly benefit and are prohibited from receiving unemployment benefits simultaneously. The bill also includes provisions for adjusting overpayment collection amounts and requires congressional approval for adding conditions to the Compassionate Allowance list.
