Bill overview
The Religious Workforce Protection Act aims to address significant backlogs in processing religious worker visas. It allows the Department of Homeland Security to extend the nonimmigrant status of religious workers who are awaiting a decision on their application for permanent residency or an immigrant visa. The bill also provides greater job flexibility for these workers and exempts them from a typical one-year requirement of returning to their home country to renew their visas.
