Bill overview
The Protecting Employees and Retirees in Business Bankruptcies Act of 2025 aims to better protect the wages, benefits, and retirement security of employees and retirees during business bankruptcies. The bill increases the priority given to employee wage claims, expands the scope of claims eligible for priority (including severance pay and contributions to employee benefit plans), and limits executive compensation during reorganization. It also restricts the ability of bankruptcy proceedings to disrupt collective bargaining agreements and ensures that retiree benefits are preserved in a sale of the company’s assets.
