Bill overview
This bill, the No Nuclear Weapons for Saudi Arabia Act of 2026, requires congressional approval before the United States can finalize a civilian nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia. It establishes that the U.S. should not approve such an agreement unless Saudi Arabia renounces uranium enrichment and reprocessing activities and agrees to an Additional Protocol with the International Atomic Energy Agency. The bill also directs the U.S. to oppose the sale of nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia until these conditions are met and seeks modifications to the Nuclear Suppliers Group’s guidelines. Ultimately, Congress must explicitly authorize the agreement through a joint resolution.
