Bill overview
The Bringing Executive Accountability, Clarity, and Oversight Now Act (BEACON Act) establishes an Office of Inspector General within the Executive Office of the President. This new office will be overseen by the President and have the authority to conduct audits, investigations, and issue subpoenas, with specific protections for confidential sources and intelligence matters. The Act also mandates regular reporting to Congress and requires an initial audit of the new office by the Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency, as well as ongoing evaluations of the Executive Office of the President’s classification practices.
