Bill overview
This bill, the SAWMILL Act, aims to support American sawmills and wood processing facilities located in rural areas by establishing a loan guarantee program. The program, administered by the Department of Agriculture, will provide loans to eligible entities to expand, reopen, retrofit, or improve their facilities. Specifically, the bill directs the Secretaries of Agriculture and the Interior to identify suitable Federal land for ecological restoration and to offer loan guarantees when doing so would reduce the cost of vegetation removal projects.
