Bill overview
The Banning Event Trading on Sensitive Operations and Federal Functions Act, or BETS OFF Act, prohibits wagering on certain events considered sensitive, such as acts of terrorism, assassinations, and wars. Specifically, it prevents placing, accepting, or facilitating wagers related to these events, as well as events under the control of government entities. The bill also amends existing federal laws to include these prohibitions within broader anti-racketeering and gambling regulations, and restricts trading related to these events on commodity exchanges.
