Overview
This bill proposes to gradually eliminate the state sales tax on food items over a four-year period, starting on September 1, 2029. Initially, the sales and use tax rate on food would be reduced by one-half of a percent each year until it is fully exempt. Additionally, the bill allows counties and municipalities to also offer exemptions on food sales. This change aims to provide relief to consumers and potentially stimulate local economies.
