Overview
This bill proposes a one-time, lump-sum longevity bonus payment for eligible retirees and beneficiaries of the Alabama Teachers’ Retirement System. Individuals who retired before May 1, 2026, and were receiving a monthly allowance on September 30, 2026, would receive $1 per month for each year of service. Similarly, beneficiaries of deceased retirees or members receiving a monthly allowance on that date would also receive a bonus based on the deceased’s years of service. The bill includes provisions to prevent individuals receiving Medicaid from receiving the bonus and specifies the payment date.
