Bill overview
This bill updates Nevada’s curriculum standards for teaching children’s personal safety. It requires the Department of Education to develop age-appropriate standards for teaching awareness and prevention of sexual abuse, in addition to existing standards for general personal safety. The bill also clarifies the definition of ‘personal safety of children’ to include recognition of various hazards and dangers, particularly those related to abuse. It mandates that schools implement these standards as part of the health curriculum, and establishes requirements for training school staff and volunteers.
