Bill overview
This bill increases the criminal penalties for taking a motor vehicle without the owner's consent. Currently, this offense is a fourth-degree crime. The bill elevates the charge to a third-degree crime for simply taking or operating a vehicle without permission, and further increases the penalty to a second-degree crime if the act creates a risk of injury or property damage. It also addresses taking and riding in a vehicle that has been unlawfully taken.
