Bill overview
This bill requires the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to study the feasibility of extending sewer service to the Lake Hopatcong region and its watershed. If sewer expansion isn’t deemed appropriate, it would allow homeowners with septic systems located within the affected area to deduct half of their septic maintenance costs from their gross income. The DEP must notify the State Treasurer and the Director of Taxation, and establish guidelines for documenting eligibility for the deduction.
