Bill overview
This bill requires New Jersey correctional facilities to determine the citizenship and legal status of all inmates. If an inmate is not a U.S. citizen or is not lawfully present in the United States, the facility cannot release them unless they are transferred to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Violations of this law can result in civil penalties for facility administrators.
