Bill overview
This bill requires New Jersey law enforcement agencies and courts to notify federal immigration authorities when a person arrested or convicted is a non-citizen unlawfully present in the state and charged with or convicted of specific crimes, including certain drug offenses and property crimes. The goal is to initiate deportation proceedings. It also mandates that correctional facilities and probation/parole officers notify immigration authorities in similar circumstances.
