Overview
This bill allows New Jersey public utilities to temporarily lease equipment from the National Guard during emergencies, such as storms or disasters. The goal is to provide a rapid response capability to repair damage and restore essential services. The Department of Military and Veterans’ Affairs will create a list of available equipment, and the Adjutant General will establish rules for the leasing process, subject to federal law. The equipment can be leased for up to 48 hours after an emergency concludes.
