Overview
The Enhanced ID Act requires the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) to create and issue enhanced driver’s licenses and enhanced non-driver identification cards to residents. These enhanced IDs will meet federal standards and include security features like a machine-readable barcode and radio frequency identification technology. They will be used for border crossings and may be used in the same manner as standard licenses and cards, while also allowing for the sharing of applicant images under specific circumstances.
