Bill overview
This bill allows certain students who aren't enrolled in traditional public schools – including home-schooled students, charter school students, county vocational school students, and nonpublic school students – to participate in interscholastic athletics in their district of residence. Students must meet the same eligibility requirements as public school students, such as physical examinations and academic standards. The bill also clarifies that schools don’t have to provide transportation or change schedules to accommodate these students. Finally, it directs the Department of Education to review the impact of the bill on school athletic programs after two years.
