Bill overview
This bill requires New Jersey’s public colleges and universities to provide alternative scholarships to student-athletes who lose their athletic scholarships due to a qualifying injury or illness. If a student-athlete’s scholarship is revoked because they become medically ineligible for athletics, the institution must offer a scholarship with equivalent value for the remainder of their undergraduate studies or up to five academic years, whichever is shorter. The bill defines ‘incapacitating injury or illness’ as a sports-related injury or illness determined by the institution’s medical staff to prevent continued participation in athletics.
