Overview
This bill creates a fund to provide housing expense reimbursements to the surviving spouses of New Jersey public safety officers – including police officers, firefighters, and corrections officers – who were killed in the line of duty. These reimbursements can cover rent, mortgage payments, and property taxes, up to $15,000 per year, until the youngest dependent child graduates high school or attends college. The fund will be supported through voluntary contributions from taxpayers via their income tax returns.
