Overview
This bill creates a new crime in New Jersey for knowingly and falsely reporting child abuse or neglect. Individuals found guilty of making a false report will be charged as a third-degree crime, which carries a potential prison sentence and a fine. In addition to criminal penalties, the bill allows for a civil penalty of up to $10,000 to be paid to the State Treasurer to support the Department of Children and Families’ work.
