Overview
This bill directs the Local Unit Alignment, Reorganization, and Consolidation Commission to study the possibility of dissolving New Jersey’s county governments. The commission will examine the functions of county government, how they are currently funded, and propose a process and legislative changes for transitioning those functions to the state, municipalities, or other local units. The goal is to reduce the property tax burden on New Jersey residents by eliminating a perceived redundant governmental layer.
