Overview
This bill aims to increase seat belt safety by changing the law regarding rear seat belt usage. It repeals the current law that treats failing to wear a seatbelt in the rear of a vehicle as a secondary offense, making it a primary offense instead. The bill also requires state and local law enforcement agencies to report data on traffic stops involving rear seat passengers and mandates the Attorney General to analyze this data and issue a report on the impact of the change. Finally, the report will be included in the state’s highway safety plan.
