Overview
This bill prohibits retail stores from charging extra fees – called surcharges – when customers pay with a credit card. It defines key terms like ‘credit card,’ ‘retail mercantile establishment,’ and ‘surcharge.’ While the bill generally prohibits these fees, it makes an exception for retail motor fuel dealers, allowing them to sell fuel at different prices to cash and credit customers, as long as both prices cover their costs and selling expenses. The law takes effect immediately.
