Overview
This bill establishes a new crime in New Jersey called ‘doxxing.’ It defines doxxing as the knowing disclosure of personal identifying information – such as name, address, or online accounts – of another person or a close relation, without their consent, via electronic means or social media. The act is prohibited if it creates a risk of serious harm, stalking, or causes mental anguish and fear. There are exceptions for good-faith reporting to the public, law enforcement, or during official investigations, and for disclosures related to protected speech activities.
