Overview
This bill aims to eliminate the practice of New Jersey legislators receiving dual pay for their legislative duties. Currently, members of the state legislature who also work for county or municipal governments can take paid time off from those jobs to fulfill their legislative responsibilities. The bill would restrict legislators to unpaid leave of absence from their existing employment when attending legislative sessions or meetings, effectively ending what is described as a ‘gravy train’ for lawmakers and reducing taxpayer burden.
