Overview
This bill would allow a court to order that a portion of child support payments – up to 10 percent – be held in an irrevocable trust for a child’s benefit. The trust would be established upon the agreement of the parties involved in a divorce or dissolution case, and the funds would be accessible to the child upon reaching the age specified in the trust agreement, or 18 if no specific age is set. The court retains the authority to manage the trust and appoint a special fiduciary if necessary.
