Overview
This bill requires the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) in New Jersey to regularly report on how money collected through the ‘societal benefits charge’ is being spent. The reports, due in January and October each year, will detail the revenue generated and how it’s allocated to programs focused on energy efficiency, renewable energy, energy assistance, and electric vehicle incentives. The bill shifts the reporting responsibility from the Governor’s budget message to the BPU directly, and clarifies the reporting includes spending on programs beyond those specifically listed.
