Overview
This bill increases the penalties for desecrating venerated objects. It elevates the offense to a third-degree crime if the desecration causes more than $2,000 in financial loss, a fourth-degree crime for losses between $500 and $2,000, and a disorderly persons offense for losses of $500 or less. Additionally, the bill adds desecration to the list of offenses that constitute bias intimidation, increasing the severity of the penalty if the intimidation is motivated by bias.
