Overview
This bill requires law enforcement officers in New Jersey to clearly identify themselves while interacting with the public during certain operations. Officers must display their agency name or initials, along with their name or badge number, on their uniforms. There are limited exceptions for undercover work, tactical operations, specific environmental hazards, and medical protection, such as wearing masks to prevent the spread of disease or protect against hazardous conditions. Violations of this law will result in a disorderly persons offense.
