Overview
This bill eliminates the statute of limitations for civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault or other crimes and offenses of a sexual nature committed against a person 18 years of age or older in New Jersey. Currently, there are exceptions for medical malpractice cases involving minors born at a particular time. This legislation would remove those exceptions and allow victims to file lawsuits at any time, regardless of how long ago the assault occurred. The bill also applies retroactively to previously dismissed cases where the statute of limitations had expired.
