Overview
This bill requires the New Jersey courts to provide translations of certain court documents, such as indictments, plea agreements, and motions, into the primary language of defendants, witnesses, or those with legal decision-making authority. The Administrative Office of the Courts will develop policies for translation services in languages including Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, and others, and will also mandate that courthouses post signs informing the public about their right to receive documents in their preferred language. The goal is to improve access to the legal system for individuals with limited English proficiency.
