Permits use of preferred names on student diplomas.

This bill allows students graduating from public and nonpublic schools, colleges, and universities in New Jersey to request that their diplomas reflect their preferred name instead of their legal name. Schools cannot require legal documentation to use a preferred name, but they can deny requests if the name is intended to misrepresent identity, avoid legal obligations, harm the institution, or be inappropriate. The bill also requires schools to update records and reissue documents for former students who provide documentation of a legal name or gender change.
