Overview
This bill would allow municipal and county police departments to hire entry-level police officers before they complete a required training course. The Civil Service Commission would exempt these candidates from taking a standard examination and allow them to be hired with a probationary status. However, they would be required to complete the full training course within nine months of being hired, with potential extensions of up to six months in specific circumstances.
