Overview
This bill creates a new crime in New Jersey: possessing a firearm during a public demonstration with the intent to cause civil disorder. It applies regardless of whether the person has a permit to carry the firearm. The bill also defines ‘civil disorder’ as a public disturbance involving violence and ‘public demonstration’ as a gathering of people with a common purpose. Violations can result in a sentence of 3-5 years in prison, a fine of up to $15,000, or both.
