Overview
This bill requires certain candidates seeking teaching certifications in New Jersey to complete a youth mental health education course or online module. Starting in the 2027-2028 school year, educator preparation programs must incorporate this training into their curriculum. The New Jersey Department of Education will also develop an online module covering topics such as youth mental health challenges, safe haven classrooms, and cultural competence. Existing certified teachers will also be required to complete the module within one year of the law’s enactment.
