Overview
This bill establishes requirements for how law enforcement agencies in New Jersey can use automated license plate readers (ALPRs). It prohibits unauthorized access to ALPR data and requires agencies to conduct annual audits to ensure ALPRs are used only for legitimate law enforcement purposes. Agencies must also submit detailed annual reports on their ALPR usage, including data collection, storage, and data sharing practices, and retain ALPR data for a maximum of two years before purging it. The bill also allows for data to be purged earlier under specific circumstances.
