Overview
This bill requires the Department of Health (DOH) to collect and track data on suicides among first responders in New Jersey. Specifically, the chief of a first responder squad or association, or their designee, must report details about each completed suicide to the DOH, including the date, age, salary, length of service, race, gender, cause of death, veteran status, and education level of the deceased. The aggregated data will be made publicly available to support suicide prevention and intervention efforts. This reporting requirement does not replace existing obligations related to evaluating deaths or reporting suicides.
