Overview
The Police Training Cost Recovery Act requires municipal law enforcement agencies to reimburse former employers for the costs of training Class Two special law enforcement officers. Specifically, if an officer resigns or refuses reappointment within a certain timeframe and then accepts a position with another municipality, the original municipality must reimburse the former employer for examination, hiring, and training expenses. The amount of reimbursement depends on the length of service with the original municipality – total costs for less than 30 days of service, and half the costs for less than two years of service.
