Overview
This bill would allow small-scale renewable energy projects – defined as those generating less than 20 megawatts – to bypass many of New Jersey’s standard state land-use permit requirements. Instead of seeking permits from state agencies, developers could apply for approval directly to local government units with jurisdiction over the project’s location. This would streamline the process for these projects while still requiring local and utility approval and adherence to construction codes.
