Overview
This bill creates a surcharge on electricity bills for large data centers during peak demand periods. The revenue collected from this surcharge will be deposited into a new ‘Grid Modernization Fund’ managed by the Board of Public Utilities (BPU). The BPU will then use these funds to support efforts to modernize New Jersey’s electrical grid.
