Overview
This bill changes New Jersey’s Megan’s Law to require county prosecutors to assess a sex offender’s risk of re-offending before they are released from prison. Prosecutors will work with law enforcement to determine the level of risk, which will then dictate the type of notification provided to the public. The goal is to better protect communities by identifying and managing potential risks associated with sex offender release.
