Overview
This bill creates a death benefit for New Jersey forest firefighters who die while performing their duties. Specifically, it provides an annual payment of $15,000 to the firefighter’s surviving spouse, child, parents, or another designated beneficiary. The payment is contingent on a timely report of the firefighter’s death to the Commissioner of Environmental Protection. This legislation supplements existing state law to provide financial support to the families of these dedicated public servants.
