Bill overview
The ‘Anthony’s Legacy Act’ allows grandparents and siblings of children in New Jersey to petition the Superior Court for visitation rights. The bill introduces special consideration for grandparents who are also Gold Star family members – defined as relatives of deceased service members. If a grandparent has historically been a full-time caretaker for the child, this strengthens their case for visitation. The court will consider factors like the child’s relationship with the applicant, the parents’ relationship with the applicant, and the best interests of the child when making a decision.
