Bill overview
This bill would allow certain noncitizen teachers to be eligible for tenure in New Jersey public schools. Currently, noncitizen teachers can receive teaching certificates, but are not eligible for tenure unless they become U.S. citizens. This legislation removes that citizenship requirement, allowing qualified noncitizen teachers to pursue tenure if they meet existing qualifications. It also provides a pathway for prior service to count towards tenure requirements for teachers already employed.
