Bill overview
This bill allows individuals in New Jersey to forage for fruits, fungi, nuts, plants, and parts of those plants for personal consumption – meaning they, their family, or friends can eat what they gather. However, foraging is prohibited if it harms threatened or endangered species or damages sensitive areas, and individuals must do so at their own risk. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has the authority to limit foraging in certain areas to protect the environment and public safety.
