Bill overview
This bill allows municipalities, fire districts, or authorities to approve the transfer of certain firefighters from the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) to the Police and Firemen’s Retirement System (PFRS). Specifically, it applies to firefighters who weren't eligible for PFRS at the time of appointment, meet the PFRS definition of ‘fireman,’ and are currently enrolled in PERS. Firefighters can either waive their PERS benefits and transfer fully or pay the full cost of their accrued liability to receive full credit towards PFRS benefits.
